This Year's Model Updates:

More power for the 4.7-liter V8 and three new trim levels (SE, Sport and Overland) are on tap for this year. Also, several important safety and convenience options such as side curtain airbags, power-adjustable pedals, a tire-pressure monitoring system and automatic windshield wipers debut this year.

Pros:
  • Powerful 4.7-liter V8, all-terrain capability, roomy comfort for four.
Cons:
  • Noisy and unrefined, questionable reliability.

  • 3 Jeeps and still going - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Owner of two jeeps, a sport and Laredo. I have over 30,000 miles the 2002 Laredo and 165,000 on the 1996 sport. Happy to say that I have had no major problems with either jeep. Once the engine light stayed on for two days and then went out on its own on the Laredo. Since the light generally has to do with polution control sensers I have not had it check out. Some of these problems people complain about seem to be petty. Keep on Jeeping.

  • Poor Service - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

This has been a comfortable vehicle for long trips. Brakes and handling are soft. While I love the looks & comfort, service is non-existent. The memory feature has not worked properly from the time we bought it. The rear-end had bad bearings, and the A/C only works on short trips & leaks on the floor. These problems were all taken to several different dealerships, and the common response was "Could not Duplicate" the problem. The only thing that was fixed was the bearing, only because I told them what bearing to fix. Three of the four window regulators have broken. The transmission operates normally for the most part but will slam in & out of gear occasionally. Fuel mileage is at 20 mpg.

Limited is fully loaded. More features than the BMW, ML380, or even the Lincoln navigator.

  • Couple of Quirks - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Overall I like it. Power of V8 is great. With Quadra drive, turning tight turns, jumps, jerks etc. from full time 4 x 4. Rear seat leg room could be better. Had a Nissan Murano; loved it, but would not pull my trailer -- this Jeep will with ease. Just hope the tranny and rotors hold up to 100k miles. Ride is a little shaky, not as refined as most suvs these days.

  • Proud Owner Of A Rock Solid 2002 JCG - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee

I am the original owner of a 2002 JGC Laredo I6/RWD with very little extras and I cant praise this vehicle enough. Now has 105k miles and no major problems to report. Did have the passenger window motor fail and the A/C had to be replaced last summer. I have used Mobil 1 synthetic on all oil changes since 1000 miles and the engine is still strong. Over 8 years, I have AVERAGED 18.5 MPG and get 23 easily on the highway at 70 MPH. From reading the reviews, it seems that my results are not typical, but I do take great care in driving and maintaining my mighty JGC. The exterior styling is classic, the interior is functional and comfortable and even without 4WD it handles the snow like a champ!

This is my third Jeep, 1st Grand Cherokee and I do use them off road. The vehicle works excellent off road and has been very reliable, no problems at all, great car!

  • Great for a First Car! - 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee
    By -

This vehicle is my first car, and I purchased it with 134k miles on it. Its a great truck, has the power I need, and the fuel economy is good. The seats, although cloth, are plush and comfortable, and the standard stereo sounds pretty good. I specifically looked for a Jeep with the 4.0L I6 engine in it due to the reliability of it. I love my Jeep!

ive had my jgc for 3 years.i had a few of the popular problems, such as jerking forward after coming to a complete stop.after 3 visits to the dealer(and a new drivetrain),that problem was solved.the transmission stinks!it jerks forward when accelerating.the overall design is great, but they need to do something about this transmission.there is no shot of buying this vehicle!

This is my 3rd Jeep and I have no problems with it. I do suggest keeping up the maintenance on it. Like with anything you buy, if you take the care in to car doctor on the scheduled visits you will get great performance out it. You cant just drive and drive and expect any vehicle to not ever need some type of up keep maintenance. I love the Jeeps and would not think of buying anything else.
